  20. The following files are included in the evaluation
  21. version of WavSorter:

  26.     launch.wav

  31.     mci.vbx

  34. If any files are missing, please notify the sysop of
  35. the BBS from which you obtained the zipped file, or

  40. IMPORTANT NOTES
  41.  
  42.  
  43. 1. Feel free to upload WavSorter to your favorite BBS's
  44.    (in fact, I hope you will). However, please be sure
  45.    to include all the files listed above so that people
  46.    who download WavSorter can use it to its fullest
  47.    capabilities.

  49. 2. If you do upload WavSorter, please do not include your
  50.    "default.ini" file. This file is created the first time
  51.    you use WavSorter and is unique to your preferences.
  52.  
  53. 3. WavSorter includes a feature called Magic Target Help
  54.    which allows you to easily call up information and help
  55.    on objects and menu items by clicking on them when Magic
  56.    Target Help is turned on. Not all objects in Visual Basic
  57.    respond to clicking, however, so while almost all objects
  58.    in WavSorter's main window respond to Magic Target Help,
  59.    there are a few which do not.

  61. 4. If you would like to use the "jumps" (green text) in the
  62.    Magic Target Help popup windows, turn on Help by choosing
  63.    the Contents item on the Help Menu before turning on
  64.    Magic Target Help (this is optional and is only necessary
  65.    if you want to use the "jumps").
  66.  
  67. 5. When WavSorter plays sound effects, it expects to find
  68.    the appropriate sound file in your WavSorter working
  69.    directory (the one to which you've copied the WavSorter
  70.    files during installation). For this reason, do not rename
  71.    or move the files "splash.wav" and "launch.wav" or you
  72.    will not be able to use the default sounds; only the
  73.    custom sounds which you assign.

  75. 6. Directories, files, and folders all drag and drop. If
  76.    you're not sure whether or not an object in the main
  77.    window responds to drag and drop, drag something over
  78.    it and watch the OpLight for information.
  79.  
  80. 7. If you want to get started right away, there's an item on
  81.    the Help Menu called "Getting Started" which will provide
  82.    you with the minimum information necessary to begin using
  83.    WavSorter.
  84.  
  85. 8. The first time you run WavSorter and save your
  86.    configuration, the following lines will be added to
  87.    your win.ini file:
  88.  
  89.     [ShepherdSoftware]
  90.     WSConfigName=default.ini
  91.  
  92.    This is the only addition WavSorter makes to win.ini.
  93.    All of your preferences are saved in the "default.ini"
  94.    file, which is stored in your WavSorter directory.

  97. INSTALLATION

  99. You install WavSorter by doing the following:
  100.  
  101. 1. Create a directory for WavSorter and name it something
  102.    appropriate like "wavsortr", or whatever name you want.
  103.  
  104. 2. Copy or move the following files to your WavSorter
  105.    directory:
  106.  
  107.     wseval.exe
  108.     register.exe
  109.     ws.hlp
  110.     launch.wav
  111.     splash.wav
  112.     file_id.diz
  113.     readme.txt
  114.  
  115. 3. Copy or move the following files to your Windows "system"
  116.    directory (e.g., c:\windows\system):
  117.  
  118.     cmdialog.vbx
  119.     mci.vbx
  120.     threed.vbx
  121.  
  122. **Note that these .vbx files are included in MicroSoft Visual
  123.   Basic 2.0, both the Standard and Professional editions.
  124.   If you have either of these programs, you already have
  125.   copies of those .vbx's on your computer. Since MicroSoft
  126.   has been known to "slipstream" newer versions of its
  127.   programs without telling anyone, it is always good
  128.   practice to compare the attributes of the .vbx's included
  129.   in WavSorter with the attributes of the same .vbx's you
  130.   already have on your system so you won't overwrite a
  131.   newer version of the .vbx. This step is, of course,
  132.   optional and doesn't affect WavSorter in any way but it's
  133.   still a good idea to do it.

  135. 4. Create a group and/or program item for WavSorter in
  136.    Program Manager (or your favorite Program Manager
  137.    substitute, if you use one) just like you would for
  138.    any program.
  139.  
  140. 5. Double-click on the WavSorter icon to start WavSorter.

  143. UN-INSTALL
  144.  
  145. I hope you will like using WavSorter, but if you decide to
  146. remove it from your computer, do the following:
  147.  
  148. 1. Delete all the files from your WavSorter directory.
  149.  
  150. 2. Remove (delete) your WavSorter directory.
  151.  
  152. 3. Using a text editor, such as Notepad, open win.ini and
  153.    remove the following lines, which will probably be near
  154.    the end of the file:
  155.  
  156.     [ShepherdSoftware]
  157.     WSConfigName=default.ini
  158.  
  159. 4. Delete the following files from your Windows "system"
  160.    directory:
  161.  
  162.     cmdialog.vbx
  163.     mci.vbx
  164.     threed.vbx
  165.  
  166. **Note: Do not delete these .vbx files if you have MicroSoft
  167.   Visual Basic 2.0, Standard or Professional editions since
  168.   you need these files for yourself. Also, do not delete
  169.   these files if they are needed by another Visual Basic
  170.   application. I know this is probably self-evident but it's
  171.   easy to make mistakes in the heat of the moment.
